WordPress Dashboard

What is the WordPress Dashboard?

Once you are logged in, you can navigate to your dashboard to view content, create new pages, and change your settings. This is the main administrative interface to update your website.

Navigating to the Dashboard

  1. Hover over your site name in the upper left corner
  2. Select Dashboard

Dashboard settings

Once you have access to your dashboard you will see a left sidebar menu that has many different options for you to choose from. Below are the options that are relevant for HarvardSites. We recommend using default settings for other WordPress menu options like Tools, Plugins, Subscriptions, etc. These additional settings are not being used for HarvardSites.

  • Posts: View all of the post content including announcements, blog posts, press releases, news articles, etc.
  • Media: View all media assets that are available to you in the system, and upload new images, video, audio, etc.
  • Pages: View all of the page content including landing pages, your homepage, and other important pages created on your website.
  • Appearance: Where you can customize your theme, menu and footer content
  • Users: Providing you the ability to add new users, delete users and manage users to help you keep your website up to date.
