What is the events content type?
The events content type is used to create individual events to add list displays of upcoming or past events. You can further organize and repurpose your events content across your site by using categories.
How to add a location
You will need to add a location before creating your event. If the location of the event already exists on your site, you may skip these steps.
- In the Dashboard left sidebar, navigate to Events > Locations > Add New.
- Enter in your location title in the Add Title field (e.g., “The Smith Center”.
- Optionally add a description in the main body area below.
- Optionally enter in the address fields in the Select a Location panel.
- Select Publish on the upper right.
How to add an event post:
- On the top admin bar, navigate to New > Event.
- Enter in your event title where it says Add Title.
- Add your event description by adding blocks to the main content area of your page.
- Under Event Details, fill out the following:
- Event type: regular, recurring, or multi-day
- Check off All day event if the event does not have a set time
- The time and date
- Add New Date: Add additional dates for events that have multiple times and dates.
- Search for and select the Event Location you previously added to your site. This could either be located under Event Details below the main content are or in the event settings right sidebar.
- Use the event settings in the right sidebar to configure your event. Here are notable fields in the event settings:
- Preview and publish your post once you’ve added your content.
- Event Categories and tags: see Managing Categories & Tags
- Featured image: This is the thumbnail image that will appear in list views and on the detail page.
- Excerpt: This is a teaser or short description for the event that will show up in list views.
- Preview and Publish your event once you’ve added your content.
How to add an events list
- In the edit view of the page you want the list on, add a new block called Events list.
- Make sure the block you just added is selected and adjust the block settings in the right sidebar:
- Number of events: The number you select will be the amount of events shown in the list.
- Category: If you would like to filter down the list to a specific subset of events (e.g., a list only showing upcoming events related to biostatistics), select the appropriate categorie(s).
- Display past events: Toggle this on to display only past events.
- Choose fields to display: Select which event fields you would like displayed in the list view.
- Layout: Select a list vs grid layout.
- You should see a preview in the block editor of your events appearing in the list and how they will be displayed.
