Image block

What is the core image block?

Use the WordPress core image block to insert an image on a page or post. Once the image has been added to the page, you can resize, crop, add captions and alt text, change the alignment with the text, or link it. This is the most simple and flexible way to add an image to a page.

Example of an image block

Teams of students in red, yellow, and green uniforms gathering on the grass in Harvard Yard.
This is the caption field of the image.

How to add a heading

  1. In the page edit view, add a new block called Image.
  2. Click Upload to add the image from your computer, Media Library to insert a previously uploaded image, or Insert from URL to add an image hosted on another site.
  3. The image will be added to the page.
  4. While the image is selected, use the toolbar above or the block settings in the right sidebar to resize, add alt text and captions, re-align, etc.
